World Breastfeeding Week 2010

World Breastfeeding Week runs from August 1st until August 7th, 2010. This year, the focus is on ’Just 10 Steps’ to encourage exclusive breastfeeding within all maternity facilities. We will we supporting and celebrating World Breastfeeding Week on Wednesday August 4th and would love for you to join us!

Two petitions for you to consider signing

There are two petitions which are currently gathering support before being presented to the Prime Minister.

The first asks the Prime Minister to bring in new and specific legislation in England and Wales, to make it an offence to prevent a parent or caregiver feeding milk to a hungry child, in any location the child has a right to be. We also ask that this legislation makes it a specific offence to intimidate or harass the parent or caregiver feeding their child. You can sign this petition here.

The second asks the Prime Minister to implement the WHO Code for the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and ban all marketing of infant formula (including follow-on formula) in the UK and to properly regulate this. You can sign this petition here.

The Be a Star campaign is based in Solihull and is dedicated to increasing the number of young mums who choose to breastfeed. They hope to do this by showcasing the beauty, confidence and pride that comes with breastfeeding, as well as providing breastfeeding information and support and highlighting the unique health benefits that it brings to both baby and mum.

The new UK-WHO Growth Charts

The new UK-WHO Growth Charts for children from birth to 4 years of age are now available. The charts have been developed as a project undertaken within the Science and Research Department led by Professor Charlotte Wright from the University of Glasgow and funded by the Department of Health.

Donate your unwanted bras to charity

Don’t throw away your old bras that don’t fit anymore – donate to this organisation and they will give them to women who really need bras but for whatever reason cannot afford/obtain them. Nursing and maternity bras also welcome as well as normal ones.
